Lawyers

Rod Kroon is the Legal Practice Director.

Rod graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws. He completed his year as an articled clerk at a Perth firm where he practiced in many areas of law before moving to Bunbury in 1990.

He has been working as a lawyer since his admission in 1984. With a general practice background, he mainly works in the areas of family law, commercial law, land and business settlements, wills and deceased estates.

Rod has been an Accredited Family Law Specialist since 2001. He is also an accredited Independent Children's Lawyer.

Rod is a member of

  • The Law Society of WA,
  • Family Law Practitioners Association (WA),
  • Law Council of Australia, and
  • South West and Great Southern Law Society.

Rod is also on the WA Country Health Service Board Research Ethics committee, the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Board, a member of the Network South West Inc.,

Rod is involved in community theatre and is an active member of the Bunbury Repertory Club. You may have seen him onstage or working at the Little Theatre in Molloy Street or the New Lyric Theatre in Bourke Street.

Rodney Kroon

 

 

 

Carmel Torney  joined Kroon Legal in 2008.

Carmel graduated from the Northern Territory University with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics before completing her year as an articled clerk at a Darwin law firm where she practised in the area of workers compensation for three years after her admission in 2000. During a short break from law, Carmel completed her Masters in Law at the Queensland University of Technology. Since returning to law, Carmel has completed a Masters in Business Administration at Edith Cowan University.

Carmel has been an Accredited Family Law Specialist since November 2011.

Carmel currently practises in the areas of employment law, family law, wills and deceased estates.

Carmel is a member of

  • The Law Society of WA
  • Family Law Practitioners Association (WA) and
  • South West and Great Southern Law Society.

Carmel is also on the board of the Bunbury Community Legal Centre.

In her spare time, Carmel enjoys scuba diving.

   

Amanda Sommerville joined Kroon Legal as an article clerk in 2011.

Currently Amanda assists Rod and Carmel and she is expected to be admitted as a legal practicitioner in early 2012

Amanda graduated from Deakin University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours).

In 2006, Amanda commenced her law degree whilst living in various Western Australia towns with her family. During the four years it took Amanda to complete her degree she has received a number of academic awards. 

  • Top graduating student completing the Bachelor of Laws degree in 2010
  • Dean's Merit List recipient (2010)
  • Best Performing Moot Student (2008)
  • Best student in Misleading Conduct and Economic Torts (2007)
  • Best  student in Contract Law (2006)
  • Golden key International Honour Society member since 2009

Whilst studying and raising her family, Amanda also worked part-time in the Peel region as a probate clerk administrating deceased estates.

Amanda was previously employed as a legal secretary, working for Rod Kroon for a number of those years.  During her time as a legal secretary, Amanda assisted solicitors in the areas of commercial law, estates and family law.

Support Staff

 

Wendy is the Practice Office Manager and Librarian and she oversees the administration of the office and accounts.

She is a member of

  • The Australia Law Librarians Group (WA).

Wendy Taylor

 

Kelsie is our trainee receptionist / administrative assistant.

Kelsie has completed her Certificate II in Business and is currently completing a Certificate III in Business at the Bunbury Business College as part of her  traineeship in business administration.

 

Brooke rejoined our team in February 2011.

Brooke works as our receptionist / administrative assistant on Wednesdays when Kelsie attends college.

Brooke originally worked with us from May 2006 to June 2008 before moving to Onslow with her partner. During that time she completed her Certificate II in Business and Certificate III in Business (Legal Adminstration). She returned to us as a receptionist for four months in 2010 before leaving to have her son.
